When you start your own blog it can be difficult to find new followers. I found the best strategy with social media is to work on one platform at a time. If you build up your Twitter followers first then you can transfer your new found followers to your other channels. Of course you can pick any platform you want to begin with but I found Twitter the easiest to form new relationships. The tips I share in this post demonstrate how I achieved 1000 twitter followers in my first month of tweeting without spending a penny.
Follow like you mean it
Twitter will encourage you to follow accounts that interest you. Make sure you use this to your advantage and pick popular accounts whose followers are also your target followers. Interact with their followers on their posts to attract them to your twitter page.
I always follow back unless I find their tweets offensive, can not understand them or they have a tight fetish . Saying that I do go through my followers every so often and unfollow anyone who is no longer me following back.
Stay current with tweets and hashtags
Never underestimate the power of a well timed hashtag. Daily themed hashtags are a great way to get exposure from a wider audience.
Popular daily hashtags include:
- #MondayMotivation // #MotivationMonday
- #TuesdayThoughts // #TipTuesday
- #WednesdayWisdom // #WorkoutWednesday
- #ThrowbackThursday // #ThankfulThursday
- #FridayFeeling // #tgif // #friyay
- #SaturdaySwag // #Caturday
- #SundayFunday // #SelfieSunday
Did you know there are also accounts dedicated to promoting your tweets? All you have to do is use their hashtag or tag them in the post and they will retweet your tweet.
Feel free to use the hashtags I used in my below tweet to get a retweet. Be sure to follow their accounts first though.

An easy way to tweet consistently is to use a site to schedule your tweets. My favourite free website to use is buffer because you can add different accounts, pictures to posts and schedule more than one tweet.
Engage with your followers
I always retweet content that I like and comment on their tweet. It is good manners for a start and you will develop good relationships.
I also join in with follow trains as often as possible because it is a great way to get up to your first 1000 twitter followers. You can either create one yourself or retweet somebody else’s and follow the rules. The below follow train I started got me a fair few new followers. This type of train also helps you to find new followers across different social media platforms.
I’m so close to 1k! Let’s do a follow train!

Whenever anyone retweets my tweets I always reply to them to say thanks. Good manners go a long way.
That is all I have got for now but I will update this post if I come across anymore helpful tips. Be sure to subscribe and follow me on twitter if you liked this post.
Good luck with your quest to 1000 twitter followers!
